What is CBIC?

If you want to become a professional in the infection prevention and control industry, you’ve heard about the CBIC exam. The primary purpose of certification is to increase protection of the public by providing an objective measurement of standardized current knowledge recognized and respected within and outside the field of infection prevention and control. 

Infection prevention and control professionals can demonstrate a mastery of this knowledge by taking and passing a comprehensive examination developed by the Certification Board of Infection Control & Epidemiology (CBIC). 

Infection prevention and control professionals who become certified are authorized and encouraged to use the internationally recognized initials CIC® after their names and in their titles.

Certification represents the commitment of an infection prevention and control professional and an institution to the continued improvement of infection prevention and control functions and their contribution to healthcare and patient safety. The mission of CBIC is to protect the public through the development, administration, and promotion of an accredited certification in infection prevention and control.

By the end of the program, you will able to:

• Describe history, epidemiology and impact of healthcare-associated infections (HAI).
• Explain the roles and functions of Infection Control Committee, infection control physician and infection control nurse/practitioner. 
• Describe essential components and implementation of an effective IPC program. 
• Explain how to define HAIs and conduct HAI surveillance.
• Describe professional responsibilities in prevention of HAI and how to monitor and assess IPC practices and interventions.
• Identify barriers and personal protective equipment (i.e.isolation precautions) and hand hygiene for protection from exposure to potentially contaminated material. 
• Describe principles of cleaning, disinfection and sterilization and reprocessing equipment. 
• Define engineering, environmental and work practice controls. 
• Explain the importance of the environment (water, ventilation, medical waste) in IPC. 
• Explain how microorganisms are spread and describe the way IPC concepts are applied. 
• Describe the role of the microbiology laboratory and pathogens important to IPC. 
• Identify a possible outbreak and initiate a preliminary investigation. 
• Identify occupational health strategies for preventing the transmission of communicable diseases. 
• Acquire knowledge and skills required to pass CBIC exam. 
• Acquire exam taking techniques and test question practice.
• Acquire study tips and guidance to make the candidate eligible to achieve the certification.

This program is directed at infection prevention and control professionals and other health professionals who interested in infection prevention and control (IP&C).

There is no prerequisites, but it is preferred -not mandatory- to have previous knowledge or work experience in this filed.

The course lasts for 40 hours, 2 hours/day, twice weekly, for 8 Weeks.

Days: Every Sunday, Tuesday.

First Lecture: will be held on Sunday, 19 Feb 2023.

Number of Lectures: 18 Lectures

Time: from 7 pm – 9 pm (Cairo Time)

Method of delivery: online live lectures with power point presentations, group discussions ,continuous interactions and sharing experiences. 

Assessment: Candidates are expected to take post modules exams, reflective of the knowledge delivered throughout the module. CBIC mock exam upon completion of the course to assess the candidate readiness for the CBIC exam. 

Commitment: Candidates must be able to attend all the lectures before taking the final exam.
